Finding meaningful writing activities for students every day can be a challenge. Between lesson planning, grading, small groups, centers, and everything else on a teacher's to-do list, having ready-to-use writing prompts can make your day so much easier!
That's why I created my Monthly Writing Prompt Calendars—a simple way to give students consistent writing practice throughout the entire school year.
These monthly writing prompt calendars include 300+ writing prompts covering all 12 months of the year. With a new prompt for each day, you'll have plenty of writing ideas ready to go without having to spend time coming up with a new topic every time.
The prompts include a variety of
writing genres, including:
- Opinion writing
- Narrative writing
- Fictional narrative
- Persuasive writing
- Informational writing
- Descriptive writing
- Creative writing
- And more!
The variety helps students practice
different types of writing while keeping their daily writing activities
interesting and engaging.
So Many Ways to Use Writing Prompt Calendars
One of my favorite things about these
calendars is how versatile they are! You can use them in so many different ways
throughout your classroom.
Morning
Work - Start the day with a quick writing
activity. Students can pick any prompt on their calendar and begin writing as
soon as they arrive.
Journal
Writing - Use the prompts as daily journal
topics. Students can keep their writing in a notebook and look back at their
writing throughout the year.
Writing
Centers - Place a calendar at your writing
center and let students choose or complete the prompt for the day. This is an
easy way to provide independent writing practice.
Independent Writing/Early Finisher Activity - The calendars are also great to keep in students' desks for those times when they need an independent writing activity. They're perfect for early finishers! Instead of asking, "What can I do now?", students can choose a writing prompt and get started!
Homework
- Send the calendar home with students and have them complete
a daily prompt as homework.
You can also use the June and July writing prompt calendars for easy summer writing homework!
Designed to Be Used Year After Year
One of the best features of these writing prompt calendars is that they don't include specific dates or days of the week. That means you can use them year after year!Choose the Orientation That Works for Your Classroom
The calendars are available in vertical and horizontal orientations, making it easy to choose the format that works best for your classroom setup.
Whether you want to give each student a calendar to keep at their desk, display one at your writing center, or keep a copy in your teacher binder, you can choose the orientation that works best for you.Make
Daily Writing Practice Easier
Daily writing practice doesn't have to
require a lot of preparation. Having a collection of writing prompts ready to
go can help you establish a consistent writing routine while giving students
regular opportunities to practice different writing skills.
You can find the Monthly Writing
Prompt Calendars in my Teachers Pay Teachers store!
